Ontogeny and fire interact to affect competition between grass and shrubs

چکیده
We investigated the effects of fire, grass and acacia age on relative growth rate (RGR), neighbour effect (RNE), height biomass in greenhouse condition. The experiment was arranged a completely randomized design with 10 replicates. Grass shrubs were grown 17 weeks after establishment, thereafter, fire applied, observations done 16 later. Old tussock suppressed seedling sapling, but young facilitated sapling. Young older mature tussocks. After remove application there no significant all seedlings negatively affected by grasses In contrast to acacia, tussocks reduced above ground biomass.

Spreaders, igniters, and burning shrubs: plant flammability explains novel fire dynamics in grass-invaded deserts.
Novel fire regimes are an important cause and consequence of global environmental change that involve interactions among biotic, climatic, and human components of ecosystems. Plant flammability is key to these interactions, yet few studies directly measure flammability or consider how multiple species with different flammabilities interact to produce novel fire regimes. Deserts of the southwest...

Snowpack, fire, and forest disturbance: interactions affect montane invasions by non-native shrubs.
Montane regions worldwide have experienced relatively low plant invasion rates, a trend attributed to increased climatic severity, low rates of disturbance, and reduced propagule pressure relative to lowlands. Manipulative experiments at elevations above the invasive range of non-native species can clarify the relative contributions of these mechanisms to montane invasion resistance, yet such e...
متن کاملHow the spatial scales of dispersal, competition, and environmental heterogeneity interact to affect coexistence.
Spatial coexistence depends on a variety of biological and physical processes, and the relative scales of these processes may promote or suppress coexistence. We model plant competition in a spatially varying environment to show how shifting scales of dispersal, competition, and environmental heterogeneity affect coexistence. Spatial coexistence mechanisms are partitioned into three types: the ...
